Looking for interesting things to do in Ho Chi Minh? Visit Notre Dame Cathedral, War Remnants Museum, Cu Chi Tunnels & more

This day is all about appreciating architecture. Vietnam has a wealth of old French-colonial buildings that lend their artistry to the city scene. You'll see the Independence Palace, the Notre Dame cathedral, and many more historical sites. In the morning you'll visit the Independence Palace (or the "Reunification Palace"). The Independence Palace is known as being one of the most beautiful structures in Ho Chi Minh City. Designed by the famous architect Ngo Viet Thu, the Independence Palace is a perfectly symmetrical architectural achievement that symbolizes a great nation's pride. The discovery of French-colonial architecture continues with the Notre Dame cathedral. With stunning arches and hundreds of sculptures guarding the outer walls, this building is cuts a dramatic silhouette against the downtown cityscape. The Central Post Office is next, and its Gothic, Renaissance and French influences shine through its colourful facade. The bright yellow building, with green shutters, offers a cheerful welcome and a stroll within will reveal more about the buildings intriguing origin story.Though not all of Vietnam's past is cheerful, it's very interesting. Learn more about the darker chapters of the Indochina wars at the War Remnants Museum. There are thousands of artifacts from that time period, cataloging the consequences of war. It's a definite must-see for the aspiring history buff. After a tasty lunch you'll depart to the Cu Chi tunnels. Your guide will tell you everything you need to know about this intricate underground network, and an educational video will enlighten you to Vietnam during war times. Then, it's time to go into the tunnels and experience history firsthand. The tunnels include kitchens, bedrooms, and military facilities containing weapons, triage centers, and command rooms. Marvel at this military maze, rigged with booby traps and hidden doors. Don't worry, your safety is the number one priority and the staff will guide you through. To heighten the realism, you'll have special tea and manioc root (a vegetable similar to sweet-potato, which was the guerilla's choice food during the war.) If you want to take it further, you will be able to try your hand at shooting an authentic war gun. It's a completely out-of-body experience, putting yourself in such a tense time in history.
