What are some fun things to do in Hoi An? Visit Hue Imperial City and see Tu Duc Tomb, Hue Citadel, Perfume River & more
The tour of Hue, the Imperial City, is truly a royal experience. It starts in Hue, a city in central Vietnam that was the former imperial capital and the seat of Nguyen Dynasty emperors. The first stop on the tour is at the famous attraction, the Citadel, a 19th-century fortress that is ringed by a moat and thick stone walls and holds within it the Imperial City. The Imperial City is full of palaces and shrines, as well as the Emperor’s Private Residence and the Forbidden Purple City. After you've explored the majesty of this popular landmark, your tour will break for lunch before taking a boat trip out onto the Perfume River. This river crosses through Hue City and is around 80 kilometres in length. If you're wondering where the name comes from, it'll be obvious once you smell the forests of aromatic plants and flowers that line the riverbanks wafting sweet fragrance far and wide.Next up is a visit to Thien Mu Pagoda, also called the Pagoda of the Celestial Lady. This iconic attraction was built all the way back in 1601 and is often thought of as the unofficial symbol of Hue City. Here you'll find a number of beautiful sculptures and interesting relics, like the large marble turtle that symbolises longevity, the statue of Maitreya Buddha in the main foyer, and the giant bell that weighs over 3,000 kilograms and can be heard 10 kilometres away when it rings. One of the most emotional displays in the pagoda is the Austin motor vehicle that was driven by former monk, Thich Quang Duc, on the way to his self-immolation in Saigon, back in 1963. After you finish exploring, the tour moves on to the last stop, the fascinating Tomb of Tu Duc.
